Emilla Shelts, 84, dies in Camden Thursday

Emilla Shelts, 84, lifelong resident of Camden Township, passed away 

suddenly Thursday, June 15, at her home in Camden. 1961

	Funeral services were held Sunday, June 18 at 2 p.m. at the Camden 

Methodist Church with the Rev. W. C. Glasier officiating. Burial was in 

the Brooklyn cemetery. The Hursey Memorial home was in charge of 


	Mrs. Shelts was born March 1, 1877 near Springfield, MO., the daughter 

of Columbus and Manila McGinnis Phillips.

	She was united in marriage January 3, 1895, in Camden township, to 

Charles Estes Shelts. To this union nine children were born. Her husband 

died on June 29, 1941.

	Left to mourn her passing are three sons and four daughters as 

follows: Arthur of Rushville, Avonel Raper of Quincy, Floyd and Leonard of 

Huntsville, Oleta Briggs of Quincy, Eva Reeder of Prairie City and Mattie 

Hare of Huntsville; two sisters, Mrs. Kate Pollett of Canton and Mrs. 

Mary Ringenberg of Brooklyn; 13 grandchildren and 16 great 


	Besided her husband she was preceded in death by two children, Lester 

and Lucille; one brother Joe Phillips; two sister, Zina Buzzard and 

Ella O'Neill; two half brothers, Robert and John Phillips; one half 

sister, Lucy Shelts and one grand daughter Ruth Shelts.

	Mrs. Shelts was converted in the fairth of Christ when she was 15 

years old and was a member of the Camden Methodist Church, where she was a 

faithful worker as long as her health permitted.  Always there to help 

in sickness and always thinking of the welfare of others--she was 

deeply loved by all and endeared in the memory of all who knew her.
