Industry Press: Jacob Lawyer, former well known and prominent farmer of this vicinity, passed away at the St. Francis hospital, in Macomb, Friday morning, January 6, aged 89 years and 29 days. Mr. Lawyer had been in failing health for some years and during the past three years had been under treatment at the hospital.

The body was placed in the abbey at Oakwood until the condition of the roads are such that it can be brought to the Chockley cemetery southeast of town for interment.

Deceased was a son of John and Massa (Cooper) Lawyer and was born in Industry township, December 7, 1838. On February 3, 1861, he was united in marriage to Nancy Elden Standard, who preceded him in death. Nine children were born to this union, six of whom, five sons and one daughter are living. They are Dallas Lawyer, of Industry; A. C. and George Lawyer, of Macomb; Mrs. L. M. Keach, of Table Grove; Sherod Lawyer of Littleton and Frank Lawyer, of Camp Point. Two children died in infancy and a son, Arthur, passed away at Mexico, Mo., about a year ago.

Mr. Lawyer engaged in farming in early manhood and followed that occupation until he retired from active life. His years of hard labor were crowned with success and at the time of his retirement he had acquired an ample competency besides many acres of land. When he left his farm south east of Industry he moved to Table Grove where he made his home until going to the hospital three years ago.
